Our Vision

Our vision is the socio-economic transformation of FdB into a globally attractive community where FdB natives can lead prosperous lives.

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen local organizations and coordinate their work towards a shared vision of an empowered and economically competitive Fond-des-Blancs community.

About Us

Overview

ADF is a Haitian-led and managed nonprofit. We believe that the socio-economic transformation of Fond-des-Blancs is possible if we tap into the latent talents of Haitians. We are a multi-faceted organization that functions as a service provider, knowledge management hub, collaboration and idea exchange forum, partnerships facilitator, and solutions incubator. Our work focuses on strengthening civil society organizations that serve Fond-des-Blancs, Haiti's poorest communities. We work at the grassroots level with Haitians to identify the most pressing needs and provide appropriate solutions. We strive to be a nonprofit that provides Haitians with a voice and power to make decisions in their own communities so they can take control of their futures. We believe that Haitians need to be at the forefront of the decision-making process. We are committed to fostering sustainable development led by Haitians.

What we aim to solve

A lack of self-determination power in the hands of Haitians: The Haitian government is unrepresentative and citizens don’t participate. In addition to being unrepresentative, the government has a weak presence in rural parts of the country. The government's shortcomings, and the general poverty of the population, have contributed to NGOs rendering many of the services that are available. So much so that headlines like "Haiti: A Republic of NGOs?" are commonplace. The problem isn't NGOs rendering services though. The problem is that the real decision making power for nearly all of these NGOs are in foreign hands. The result is that Haitians do not have decision making power in many of the choices that impact their economic, cultural, and social development

Our statement of purpose

So long as value outweighs the cost, ADF exists so a growing number of community organizations can more effectively tackle barriers to Fond-des-Blancs being a model community.

1. Organizations exist to address agriculture, environmental, health, education, economy, and housing issues.

2. Organizations can establish solid legal foundations for receiving grants or can receive grants via ADF.

3. There is information and technology available to organizations regarding FdB's needs, granting opportunities, and organizational structures.

4. Information is shared between organizations.

What we are trying to accomplish

1. The economic transformation of FdB into a globally attractive community where FdB natives can lead prosperous lives.

2. The increase of decision making power in the hands of Haitians over choices that impact their economic, cultural, and social development.

3. Strengthen local organizations so they can accomplish more and be able to take on more responsibility.

4. Make it possible for all kids growing up in Fond-des-Blancs, now and in the future, to pursue and realize their full potential.

Our Core Competencies

1. Research - Data Collection

To find solutions that will create transformative and sustainable change, you have to understand the complexities of the problems. You can’t get that understanding without doing research and collecting data. No organization or government entity does demographic, socio-economic, or any other type of research in Fond-des-Blancs. The data we are collecting will help contribute to our envisioned socio-economic transformation of Fond-des-Blancs by helping in the enactment of locally aware, systemic, and sustainable solutions.

2. Organizational Development - Member Services

We provide technical, financial, and in-kind support to local civic and nonprofit organizations along with training. We provide training on digital skills, management, and business administration.

3. Planning, Coordination, and Collaboration and Networking

Planning

We help in creating district-wide plans that help guide the work of civic and nonprofit organizations. The process involves gathering the wants, needs, and ideas, of the population along with gathering opinions on the proposals set forth by the local development institutions.

Coordination

We provide information about who is doing what when, and where along with socioeconomic and geographic information systems (GIS) data to local and non-local development institutions.

Collaboration and Networking

We create opportunities for leaders to meet so they can form organizational relationships, discover and create opportunities, and share information."
